Dolomite mining contains theoretically 54.35 % of CaCO3 and 45.65 % of MgCO3 or 30.41 % of CaO, 21.86 % of MgO, and 47.73 % of CO2. However, in nature, dolomite is not available in this exact proportion. Generally, the rock containing in the range of 40 % to 45 % of MgCO3 is the dolomite that we use.
Dolomite is a type of limestone which is rich in magnesium and also, calcium carbonate. The main drivers for the dolomite market are transport infrastructure and construction industries. Apart from these, there are other segments that are also befitting from dolomite usage. Experts are of the view that dolomite mining in India can open up several opportunities.
Dolomite, also known as calcium magnesium carbonate, is a non-metallic material used in the construction industry. It finds application in the manufacturing of bricks, mortar, cement, concrete, plastics, paving materials, and other construction materials. Dolomite”s greater hardness, density, and low solubility, make it resistant to the acid content of rain and soil. Hence dolomite suits best for the construction of highways, roads, parking lots, sidewalks, curbs, and residential streets. The level of productivity in the construction market is a significant factor in the growth of the sector. Furthermore, the supportive government policies also help in driving the dolomite demand.
Horticulture or agriculture grade dolomite comes in use for soil neutralization or conditioning to correct its acidity. It can also be used as fillers in fertilizers. The main ingredient is calcium carbonate, it helps to increase the pH of acidic soils and it provides a good source of calcium for plants. Additionally, it improves the water penetration for acidic soil. Another important reason to use dolomite in your home garden is it acts as a useful nutrient for plants like tomatoes that need extra calcium to grow. Thus, the rising awareness among farmers regarding improving the productivity of the soil will likely be beneficial for the dolomite industry.
The main uses of dolomite in the iron and steel industry are (i) as a fluxing material (ii) for protection of refractory lining, and (iii) as a refractory raw material. Dolomite in the iron & steel industry is normally used in three forms which include raw dolomite, calcined dolomite, & sintered dolomite.
Metis Steel, a prominent name among the dolomite mining companies, provides a huge amount of dolomite to various industries across the country. The quality of the delivered products bear the maximum purity and therefore they have happy clients. Additionally, they follow an ethical approach in the manufacturing process.
